"I saw the movie last night, after my sister saw it and gushed non stop about it (about the movie, not Terrence Howard butt!) I was very ready to hate this movie, because of the low ratings here, and the "I'm a rapper, I'm bored, Gimme a camcorder and let's do a movie"-label, and also because I'm not really a fan of 50cent (I don't hate him, but I can't say I'm a fan).

But what I saw and got was a pretty good movie, with well defined characters, very good acting. Joy Bryant positively shines, Terrence Howard IS good, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje delivers, and Curtis "50cent" Jackson is the real deal : he played his role to the hilt and showed emotion, rage, angst, joy, disillusion, triumph, and dare I say, love so well that I totally forgot I was watching 50cent playing 50cent's life.

What I saw last night is the story of a scarred little boy born in a place where he was bound to turn bad (which he did), but who, while growing up too fast, kept enough faith and rage to overcome the bumps and holes on the road leading to his dream of becoming a rapper. And the man who played the role of Young Cesar was not 50cent the rapper, but Curtis Jackson the actor.

I was moved, I was enchanted, I was hurt, I was shocked, I felt everything along with him, his pain, love, soul-emptiness, triumph, and I have yet to recover.

However, this movie has flaws, the drug barons are sometimes overplayed, and you can find too much gratuitous violence, but I think that's the way things are in real life for those guys, and in real life, there's no such thing as "overplaying" or "too much gratuitous violence". Life is a jungle, and this movie illustrates that very well, thanks to Jim, Curtis, Joy, Adewale and Terrence.

I do advise you, reader of this review, to forget your prejudice and go to a theater to make an opinion by yourself with eyes and mind wide open, like you (should) do for any other movie... "
